Excalibur

For vacationers who have always dreamed of living in the medieval days of knights and castles, Excalibur is the perfect hotel and resort. Located along the south end of the Las Vegas Strip, this medieval-themed resort boasts Arthurian touches throughout its magnificent layout. The main façade of the hotel itself is a large and spectacular castle that will remind many visitors of the one at Disneyland. Magnificent turrets greet visitors at the entrance. Within its walls, swords and shields embellish the walls, iron chandeliers hang from the ceiling and elaborate stained glass is in many of the windows. Once you have entered Excalibur, it is easy to imagine yourself ruling a mighty kingdom in the days of old.

There is more to this resort than just the flash and flair of the decorations, though. Distinct and world-class entertainment abounds around every corner. In Merlin’s Theater, there are shows by the exotic men’s group The Thunder from Down Under and comedy shows from Louie Anderson. One of the more popular attractions is the Tournament of Kings, which features authentic swordplay and jousting performances in the 900-seat King Arthur’s Arena. Two dinner shows are given nightly. The Fantasy Faire offers a variety of midway games and novelties, including carnival games and two motion-simulator rides.

More modern games can be found in the 100,000 square foot casino. Casino games include Blackjack, Caribbean Stud Poker, Craps, Let It Ride, Pai Gow, Poker (7-Card Stud and Texas Hold 'Em), Roulette, Slots, Video Poker, Video Keno, Big Six Wheel, Mini-Baccarat and Megabucks. The casino also has a separate poker room. In addition, Excalibur has a 180-seat race and sports book, which is furnished with 33 big screen TVs.

Though it is designed to appeal to the whole family, don’t be fooled into thinking Excalibur lacks a nightlife. The Octane Lounge is a biker-themed nightspot that offers signature cocktails and live entertainment every night. For those interested in shopping, the hotel also has many specialty shops and boutiques.

With all the fun and excitement going on, you are sure to work up a healthy appetite. Fortunately, Excalibur is home to a wide variety of excellent restaurants and places to eat. Sir Galahad’s Prime Rib House is a Tudor-style prime rib eatery that is known for its scrumptious English Yorkshire pudding. Other fine dining options include: The Steakhouse at Camelot, Regale, the Sherwood Forest Café and the Roundtable Buffet.

There are two pools currently at Excalibur, with a brand new pool area scheduled to open in July 2007.

Excalibur features not one but two unique wedding chapels. Couples are given the chance to get married in medieval costumes amid a festive atmosphere. There is also a health club on the property, along with a 13,000 square foot Royal Treatment Spa and Fitness Center. A salon is also located just outside the spa in the hotel. In addition, the hotel has a 12,000 square foot convention center and a three-story parking garage. A monorail travels from Excalibur to the nearby Mandalay Bay Hotel. Every standard room features a host of amenities, including air conditioning, hair dryers, electronic door locks, cable TV, pay-per-view movies, a telephone and a desk. The hotel also provides a maid service, luggage service, valet parking and a laundry service.

If you are just looking for good, old-fashioned fun, no other resort will beat Excalibur’s merry décor and atmosphere. Stop wishing you could live like a king and come visit now!
